Yellow Label Kids was inspired by a young mother, Hillary Sciarillo, who wanted to give babies an alternative to the mass produced, commercial plastic toys made in sweat shop conditions.  With Yellow Label Toys, parents never have to worry about toxic substances like lead paint in their children's playthings, child labor or sweat shops.  All YLT toys are fair trade, cruelty free, non toxic, washable, durable and tactile.

Sciarillo designs her lovely toys in San Francisco and sends her plans to artisan cooperatives in Bangladesh, mostly mothers themselves, where they are hand made by women earning a real living wage.  They learn skills such as knitting and can have their children with them when they are working.  This system allows the elderly or disabled women to work at home instead of traveling long distances to factories.

This collective is overseen by a non profit Fair Trade Organization, whose primary goal is to support health and education programs for these women and their families.  In addition to earning a sustainable living they are also provided literacy training, free healthcare, childbirth education and for many the opportunity to work from home.  Yellow Label Kids is a proud member of the Fair Trade Federation.
