When naming our business, we felt it was important to include "Eco" because it was the best way to reflect our commitment to the environment.  We also felt that it is the best way to keep our priorities in the forefront.  The name has served as a constant reminder that above all, we are a green business.  We like to think of it as our “3 word mission statement”.

Keeping our footprint as small as possible is a high priority for us & as a result, most of our products are made in the USA by small, family owned business that adhere & often exceed the requirements set forth by labor laws.  Our imported products disclose the country of origin. Regardless of country of origin, all our items are produced free of child labor, forced labor & employees are paid a fair living wage with benefits & the freedom to organize.

We imagine that our customer care about many of the same things & require detailed information about the products they buy.  Customers deserve to know how, where & under what conditions items are made.  With that in mind, when making buying decisions we give preference to:

- USA made products
- Products with natural ingredients / components
- Products with organic ingredients / components
- Products with recycled / repurposed materials
- Recyclable, biodegradable products & packaging
- Cruelty free products free of animal testing
- Non toxic, non polluting products
- Products made free of child labor & forced labor
- Manufacturers that pay a living wage
- Manufacturers that share our values in respect to the environment & labor

Because labor issues are essentially environmental issues, we opt for certified fair trade whenever possible.  We look for third party certification from reputable entities.  If facilities have not been certified, we seek to ensure that production processes meet our standards.  In ongoing conversations with manufacturers & importers, we share our concerns and those of our customers.

We reuse all our packing materials & are always looking for new ways to keep trash out of our landfills - retiring them only when they have outlived their usefulness.  We recycle anything our local recycling center will accept.  All organic waste is composted & our kitchen is free of disposables.

Even though we are based in sunny Southern Florida, we do not use what some may consider an absolute necessity here: air conditioning.  Strategically opening/closing windows, using curtains & shades as well as ceiling fans we can manage a comfortable ambient temperature year round.  It requires a bit of work & remembering to adjust windows & shades, but in the long run it minimizes our carbon footprint & keeps our costs down.  If you've considered going natural (no a/c), read Stan Cox’s “Losing Our Cool: Uncomfortable Truths About Our Air Conditioned World”.

Our love of nature & our surroundings translates into year-round volunteering in our community & providing financial support to causes we believe in.  Most months, we promote the works of groups we believe in by donating 1% of a month’s total sales.
